Book Review - They Called US Enemy

My Daughter works at the Henderson Library system and recommended I read this graphic novel by George Takei.  It's about his time as a child when he and his family were forced to live in Japanese Interment camps during World War II.  This novel shows you that Fear and Hysteria can get us to do some really rotten things to our fellow citizens/Residents. What a lot of people forget or don't know is that during this time, American citizens who were of Japanese descent were required to live in the 10 camps because of the fear and hysteria generated by our own government. This is a quick, engaging novel, so I highly recommend spending a day or two reading it to gain insight into our past from a fellow citizen of the United States.

While I was reading this, it made me think of what we are doing with our undocumented immigrants and sometimes our fellow citizens who happen to be of the same complexion as those being rounded up. It feels like we are going backwards instead of remembering our past.

I have grown fond of Uncle George over the years. He has a lot of courage and is not afraid to stand up and fight for what he knows America stands for

For all the good the United States has done throughout our history, we can never forget that we have done some truly rotten things to our own people.

Book Review - Interstellar: The Berkelium Effect

Book 3 of Douglas Talbott's The Berkelium Effect, in my opinion, was the best of the three-book series. Humans have gone farther into space than at any time in history.  They have a big mystery to solve, and I can't wait to see how he fleshes out solving the mystery.

This series was Doug's first self-published book.  He mentioned that he is currently going back and reediting it. He is a new author with an extensive Sci-Fi library of other authors.

Book Review - Nexus of Truth: The Berkelium Effect

This is the second book in Douglas Talbott's series.  I thought the story was better in this book and less technical than the first book. I felt that some parts were explained later in the book, which closed out storylines that should have been resolved near the beginning of the book, as it left me wondering what happened to those characters.  Also, he has one chapter that repeats itself only a couple of pages apart. I thought my Kindle had swiped left when I moved.

I would still recommend the book series

Book Review - The Berkelium Mass - Book 1

This book by Doug Talbott is a fascinating concept.  A person creates an AI Digital assistant with whom they partner to develop a new type of power source, a perpetual motion power generator, and a reactionless space drive, enabling space flight.  The story starts pretty techy, so some readers may get lost on what is being covered, but it settles down later in the book. There were some things indicated in the story that I had to research to validate if they could even exist as we know them now.

This is book 1 of a 3 part series.

I know Doug personally as I was stationed and roomed with him in the U.S.Air Force at Ellsworth AFB, SD.  When I roomed with him back in 1979, his house had multiple bookcases of sci-fi books, which you can see reflected in his writing and background.  He is also passionate about 3D printing, a key factor in this book, which explores how they produce new power sources and reactionless space drives.

If you are into tech sci-fi, I recommend this book.

Book Review - Forsaken Mercenary - Judgement

The final chapter of this 12-book Space Opera. The final Battle against the ultimate evil, The Darkening.  Daniel has assembled his team, comprising his pack of Super soldiers. Also, he has new allies who have fought the Darkening in the past at significant cost, Earth's Artifact Guardians who have gone insane, and creatures of old mythology, to take the war to end the threat against the galaxy.  The battle comes at a high cost. Not everyone is going to survive.

This book kept me up until 4:00 am, eager to see if Daniel is successful. I could not stop reading this one until the end.

I would highly recommend this author, as he knows how to put a great story together. When you think you know what is going to happen, he adds a twist to change direction.
